Theme Trails around the Rosengarten – Latemar Region

Our mythological hike takes us through the deep green forests at the foot of the Dolomites to one of the most beautiful lakes in the entire country, the Karersee. The deep blue waters of the lake capture stunning reflections of the surrounding green forests and chalk-white Latemar Mountains. In the summer, a sandy shoal appears in the middle of the lake. According to legend, a beautiful mermaid used to sunbathe here. A wizard, who happened to pass by, tried to lure her ashore. As a bridal gift, he tightened a rainbow from the water to the Latemar peaks. But the mermaid just laughed him off and disappeared into the cool waters. The wizard was so angry that he took the rainbow from the sky and thrust it into the lake. Legend has it that ever since that time, the lake glitters and sparkles in the most gorgeous colors. Trail description: This trail passes from Karersee via trail no. 21 through the mysterious forest Karerwald to the Mitteleger mountain (1840 m) where it intersects with trail no. 11. Take this trail to get to Lake Karersee. As you continue on, take trails nos. 10a and 7 to hike to Welschnofen.
